Man Develops Type 2 Diabetes After Taking Spoonful of Sugar With Medicine the Last 20 Years
A man from Normal, Illinois, who has asked that his name be omitted from this article, has been diagnosed with what doctors are calling the most severe case of type 2 diabetes ever recorded. Having been influenced by the popular song “A Spoonful of Sugar” from the 1965 classic film Mary Poppins, the man has been taking anywhere from a teaspoon up to a tablespoon worth of sugar every time he takes medicine. This method, although not harmful if employed intermittently, can lead to serious complications due to extreme sugar intake if excessively utilized. Having been on allergy medication, cholesterol medication, and ACE inhibitors since his early 40s, the man has been taking anywhere from a few teaspoons up to 5 tablespoons of pure uncut sugar daily for the past 20 years. Doctors have been treating the man for the past few days and say he is doing well, but worry they will not be able to get him to continue taking his vital medication after adjusting his diet and regimen.
